Can. 532 In all juridical matters, the parish priest acts in the person of the parish, in accordance with the law.

Can. 537 In each parish there is to be a finance committee to help the parish priest in the administration of the goods of the parish, without prejudice to can. 532. It is ruled by the universal law and by the norms laid down by the diocesan Bishop, and it is comprised of members of the faithful selected according to these norms.

The Church Universal, through its governing directives known as “canon law” mandates that good persons be chosen from each community to serve as assistants to the pastor in the administration of temporal goods. This body is known as the Finance Council. The members of St. Johns’ Finance Council bring a wide variety of experiences and skills to their job of discernment. What do they discern? They discern how to meet the pastoral priorities set by the pastor, staff, and advisor’s in the best manner, and how to help shape and direct those priorities according to the particular resources of the community.

The council assists the pastor and the business manager in carrying out the material administration of the parish. The Finance Council is concerned with parish resources, the budget, church support, and the effective utilization and maintenance of the facilities.

The financial advisory committee meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Parish business office.
